Palo Alto Residence by Maydan Architects

Barbie loves minimalism! It's chic and one of her favorite types of architecture. Although, this doll has her favorites (houses, dolls & kens) she prefers not to single any one out over the other... So lately she's been tossing nods to all her favorites. It gets confusing especially when you care for so many different styles... And people. :) No matter how she feels about any of them it's best to keep it simple without the drama. Minimalism is a great way to keep your Dreamhouse drama free!

Cliff House by Modscape Australia

Just because Barbie doesnt interfere in the love life or business of her favorite Ken doesn't mean she doesn't care, it's really a man's choice dolls! Sometimes you have to trust that Ken knows what he wants. Barbie has no influence in such things, dolls! Now... Instead of meddling in his personal affairs Barbie simply prefers to suggest better ways Ken can improve himself such as with great design! She thinks there's always a cooler place to live. And there's nothing better than a house that is like something out of a James Bond film and quite daring!

Cliff House by Modscape Australia

“A conceptual design, The Cliff House, a four storey home sits beneath a clifftop-level two car garage, virtually invisible from afar. As if in a James Bond film, the car is parked atop the sleek home where the user can enter through a discreet staircase leading to the space below. Once inside, users discover the panoramic views offered in each of the glass-encased spaces. The spaces are stacked to grow more private from top to bottom, with the kitchen stacked above the living room, stacked above the bedrooms, with a private terrace beneath. The modestly proportioned home includes a full kitchen, dining room, three bedrooms, two bathrooms including an ensuite, and a spa on the open air terrace.” ~ arch daily

Lovelli Residence by Word of Mouth

Barbie loves when people spread joy and happiness by word of mouth. She encourages her favorite Ken to express himself through positivity with his ideas versus discussing small things. The best way to express joy is through living! Where better than a dream house built from Word of Mouth... Architects?

The Lovelli Residence by Word of Mouth

“The brief to Architect Valentina Audrito and her team at Word of Mouth was very clear: create a fun, unique space in which the client, an Italian socialite/jewellery designer, could live and entertain.

Set on only 300sqm of land in the trendy area of Seminyak, Bali, the site presented challenges not only in terms of its limited size but also its east orientation. The design solution therefore required a creative use of the space, where different functions could harmoniously overlap and interact with each other – the dining area also becomes a lounge, the living zone flows seamlessly into the pool area, and each bedroom functions also as a living space. The result of allowing the spaces to overlap, instead defi ning functions by changes in level and sliding panels, is a sense of a much larger space.

The first floor is dominated by the master bedroom, fl anked on 3 sides by green terraces, which maximise natural light and enhance the perception of the size of the space. Here too, functions comfortably overlap each other within the one area – there is a visual interaction between the bed, bathtub, shower, sink, and writing table. All vertical partitions on this floor are treated using wooden louvers to maximise the natural light, giving this space a much lighter feel in contrast to the strongly defined concrete structure of the floor below.

The overall aesthetic of the villa is a tribute to the Mediterranean architecture that played a role in the backgrounds of both the client and Italian-born Audrito. Rounded corners are favoured over hard edges in order to infuse a softness to the imposing lines of the structure.

The material palette is purposefully restrained; largely consisting of white rendered walls, polished concrete and white painted timber – all offset with an abundance of natural vegetation. The client requested that the architectural material palette be limited as much as possible to black and white (the only colours she wears). As is typical of the architecture of Word of Mouth, the colour is instead introduced in the playful interior furnishings; a combination of items selected from all over the word, and pieces designed by the practice, such as the furniture range inspired by eggs.” (Via Archdaily)
