Black Desert House by Oller & Pejic Architecture

Barbie loves when people press forward through their challenges and keep going. In life sometimes you can’t succeed once, but rather you succeed eventually through hard work and perseverance. Barbie’s favorite place to see dedication to completion is architecture. Here’s a home that wouldn’t have been made without perseverance...

Black Desert House by Oller & Pejic
Architecture

The Black Desert House is located on a site, in the Yucca Valley where several previous architects had attempted to build a home without success. The a site was covered in marks & scars from previous attempts of development. The clients wanted a “house like a shadow”, so the home became the shadow of the rock that had been scraped away on the land.

The end result is a home that defers to the landscape and stands alone. There are large windows that open the house to the exterior, and showcase the exceptional views. The interior living spaces are arranged around the inner courtyard to create an entry and provide a protected exterior.

Doug Aitken's Mirage House

Life’s grand or nothing impressive. It’s all in the eye of the beholder. Barbie often suggests to her favorite Ken that not everything he thinks or sees is what is actually happening but rather it’s the mirror of himself he perceives... she prefer he focus on the more positive outcomes of life and find gratitude in the challenges but it’s not her life or her business so... she enjoys looking at the mirrors in architecture.

Doug Aitken's Mirage House

As part of the exhibit, Desert X, artist Doug Aitken created Mirage: a mirror-covered ranch-style house inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright and the American West. The home is situated at the junction of the San Jacinto Mountains and the Coachella Valley. The home, Mirage acts as a kaleidoscope that reflects and distorts the beauty of the landscape that surrounds it.

The Light House by W design architecture studio

Barbie knows that within all there is the potential to be light and dark. Sometimes dolls and kens, we are so blinded by the perception of others who see us as a bad person that needs to change, that it prevents from seeing our true light or other half. Even fear will drive people to surround themselves with those who only wish to see our bad. Once people are ready they will embrace their light and darkness. The best place to enjoy the light is in a dreamhouse.

The Even Yehuda House by The Heder Partnership

Barbie loves letting her favorite dolls and kens live their lives. She knows better than to make what they're doing about her and she truly hopes they do the same instead of reacting badly. As much as she enjoys chatting up her favorite Ken when he comes around she maintains her boundaries and space from his life as he does hers. It's rather disappointing when there's been a misunderstanding between you both but that's life and you let the past be the past and start off even or you'll never get anywhere. Busy people have busy lives and quite often you simply just don't see each other in the rush of it all and there's no hard feelings in being busy if you're on even ground. The best place for even things is in architecture.
