People are People.

People are people
So why should it be
You and I should get
Along so awfully
People are people
So why should it be
You and I should get
Along so awfully

So we're different colors
And we're different creeds
And different people have different needs
It's obvious you hate me
Though I've done nothing wrong
I've never ever met you so what could I have done

I can't understand
What makes a man
Hate another man
Help me understand

People are people...

Help me understand
Help me understand

Now you're punching
And you're kicking
And you're shouting at me
I'm relying on your common decency
So far it hasn't surfaced
But I'm sure it exists
It just takes a while to travel
From your head to your fists

I can't understand
What makes a man
Hate another man
Help me understand

People are people – Depeche Mode.

Precious. What is precious to you? Is it your electronic devices? Your gadgets? Your clothing? Is it any of your things? Are they really more important than the people in your life? How about the ones that gave you life?

This is where we are. Society holds dear to it the things that matter the least. Enraptured by the things that are meant to make life easier not complicate it. We have become so isolated from what is real. More and more people are alone. Lonely without a point. Caught up in this fake life that lives inside these things. Finding love, making friends, and seeing your family shouldn’t be limited to the web chats, the emails, and the texts. Granted these things do happen this way and it’s amazing this is possible. But there is more to life than this. The simplicity of meeting a new person in the flesh, talking on the phone to hear an old friend’s laugh, and seeing a family member you’ve missed for months, or years in person. When it is all gone you will fight tooth and nail to kill for the things that you discarded so easily.

The real people, the real places, the real things. Human touch. A hand against a cheek matched with a smile. Human compassion. Tears for happiness and hope for someone else. There is no substitute for these human things. Yet the people we hold dear, we find the most awful ways to judge each other. So consumed to find the flaws in everything that we should adore and cherish because it is not the false perfection we idealize. Imperfection is in all of us. Andy Warhol once said that it would be best if everyone was a machine. Looked the same, talked the same, and said the same thing over and over again. Through this repetition he felt there would be no judgment. No need for judging as everyone would act like, look like and essentially be the same. The man was a genius as his theory takes out the need for the complexity of human nature. No conflict. Because it is our human failing to find conflict with everything.

We all prefer complexity over the simplicity of life. Life is complex, and there is no any which way around that. You must find a way to enjoy the simple things in the everyday ordinary. Embrace the shortcomings of everything and everyone around you. Life is very precious. Try to remember what about it is precious to you. Connect to it. A friend of mine reminds another friend that you never know what may come next. And I have to agree, you never do. Think of your loved ones and enjoy every DAMN second you have with them. And to the strangers you meet along the way… WAIT! Before you take out that pointed knife and toss it at someone. Think about what you are doing and why you feel the need to do it. Your attack isn’t about that other person. It is about you. Your negativity is coming first.

Everyone goes to that negative place now and again. Don’t make the mistake of doing it every time. Color. Creed. Sexuality. Wealth.  It makes no difference. It doesn’t matter who or what you are as long as you are being you. Accept that in others. No one person is more important than another. “You are not special” Although your judgments give you a false sense of superiority they are not valid. The judgments we hold about others reflect more about us. Opinions are valid. Judgments are not. The killings. The suicides. All pointless deaths. People are people. What is it that you hate about someone else? It has nothing to do with religion, morals, or values. To stand behind anything other than your own hate is a lie.

Always love. Hate will get you every time. Destroying you inside out. Instead of hate, show a little kindness. Making someone else’s day is far more rewarding than inflicting pain. Just a smile can make a difference. Let someone know they aren’t alone. Reconnect. There are no laws to stop people from purposely hurting each other emotionally. It is up to each and every one of us to take responsibility for our actions.
